Introducing Codefresh GitOps Cloud—seamless environment promotions across clusters using your existing Argo CD
Last week, we launched Codefresh GitOps Cloud, which makes it fast and easy to promote software changes securely. With GitOps Cloud, DevOps teams and developers can easily create promotion flows by connecting multiple existing Argo CD instances to a single control plane—no additional software needed. You get:
Multi-environment application promotions with Argo CD, including:
Full visibility for application engineers
GitHub checks to keep everyone informed
Smart concurrency settings to keep changes flowing
Complex promotion modeling with workflow hooks and actions
The ability to bring your own Argo CD or install our Codefresh Runtime
We made it easy to connect existing Argo CD infrastructure with Codefresh GitOps Cloud. The agent lets you bring your own Argo CD instance, which works in plug-and-play mode. You install it in minutes, and if you change your mind, you can also remove it without affecting your existing Argo CD instance.
If you don’t want to bring your own Argo CD instance, you can still choose the Codefresh Runtime to manage all Argo services in one bundle with our easy installation process.
Simplified Runtime setup with the new installation wizard
Our new installation wizard, designed for ease of use and maximum visibility into every step, makes installing a GitOps Runtime simple, intuitive, and quick.
Key features:
Installation and configuration steps are clearly defined, so you can complete the entire setup from the same location.
Guided experience that walks you through each step.
Inline parameter descriptions so you always know what to define.
Automatic progress saving so you can stop anytime and resume exactly where you left off.
We’ve released Codefresh on-prem version 2.7, which is also now available on a public GitHub repo.
We’re excited to make GitOps promotions generally available for our on-prem customers. Promotions are essential for advancing application versions across environments in a controlled, traceable manner.
The Codefresh GitOps module provides greater visibility, control, and automation while maintaining Git as the single source of truth. It also integrates with and extends Argo CD. This enables structured promotion flows, policy enforcement, and better deployment tracking beyond standard application syncs.
We also increased the limit for audit logs, fixed bugs, and made UX improvements.
It's now simpler and more secure to manage secrets in your pipelines. When clicking "Add", you can create a regular variable or secret variable directly in the UI. What's new?
One-step secret creation – No need to manually encrypt after adding a variable.
Improved security – Secrets are encrypted automatically, reducing exposure risks.
More intuitive workflow – Easily distinguish between regular and secret variables.
Codefresh lets you easily manage multi-environment promotions, backed by the power of Argo CD, minus all the manual work.
Set up automated promotion flows in a few clicks and govern how promotions happen by adding testing and policies. You get fast, reliable, and secure deployments, built-in GitOps best practices, and total control over your workflows.
The Application Change Revision (ACR) Controller is a new Codefresh component integrated into GitOps Runtimes. It's designed to improve sync precision and notification relevance for Argo CD applications.
The ACR Controller lets you:
Pinpoint the exact change revision responsible for an application sync.
Store this revision in the application CRD under app.status.operationState.operation.sync.changeRevision.
Scope notifications to the modified application, which reduces noise and improves clarity.
We had a wonderful time in London at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2025. It was great meeting so many folks, showing off Codefresh GitOps Cloud, and discussing all things Kubernetes. For the inside scoop on everything we saw and heard, watch the KubeCon recap webinar with Dan Garfield and John Bristowe.
In case you missed it, catch up on our webinar, Introducing Codefresh GitOps Cloud. Learn how GitOps Cloud works, how to use it for multi-environment application promotions with Argo CD, and the flexible options you have to bring your own Argo CD instance or install our Codefresh runtime.
We aired another episode of Argo Unpacked on Monday, April 7.
Dan Garfield and Andrew Block discussed Argo CD secret management. They covered best practices, tools, and everything you need to keep your secrets safe.
